TAKE A MENTAL HEALTH BREAK-FASTThere’s no better way to kick off the holiday season than with a good news story so let us begin by announcing the success of the Take a Mental Health Break-Fast. Over four hundred guests attended the event on September 21 at the Sutton Place Hotel in support of mental health and addiction programming and services including the Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) program.
A special thank you to our sponsors The Robert Proznik Family, The Larry and Janet Anderson Charity Fund and Cameron Development Corporation. The generosity of sponsors, donors and attendees helped to raise over $170,000. The Mental Health Foundation would also like to thank TELUS and the Eldon and Anne Foote Fund at the Edmonton Community Foundation for providing grants for the WRAP program.
WRAP facilitator Giselle Leblanc was the guest speaker at this year’s breakfast and gave a touching account of her personal struggles with mental illness and her journey to recovery through the WRAP peer support program and her artwork. Her personal story gave guests a glimpse into the lives of those who suffer from mental health issues and left them with a heart-warming account of the hope that is within their reach. By her example, Giselle helped to remove some of the stigma which remains a significant obstacle for those affected by mental health challenges. |
