Guru Goes Bollywood - the Sequel! Raises over $188,000
On June 15, 2011, Guru Goes Bollywood – The Sequel! - presented by All Weather Windows and The Rohit Group of Companies - raised over $188,000 for the Mental Health Foundation.
Hosted in the private residence of Krishna & Radhe Gupta, over 250 guests enjoyed an evening of fine Indian cuisine and entertainment, all in support of a great cause. The success of the evening – including ensuring there was a plan for every possible problem such as Alberta’s unpredictable weather - was made possible thanks to the work of a committed group of volunteers. "No one person can do an event like this alone,” says Krishna Gupta, who is also a member of the Foundation’s Board. “We had a fantastic group of volunteers, and the support of our community. We are so grateful.”
In attendance were business and community leaders who came out to support the work of the Mental Health Foundation. Celebrity guest servers included the Honourable Gene Zwozdesky Minister of Health and Wellness, Naresh Bhardwaj MLA for Edmonton-Ellerslie, and City Councillor Amerjit Sohi.
Lindsay Kelly, Chair of the Mental Health Foundation Board of Trustees was thrilled with the response. “This is a signature event both for the Mental Health Foundation and for the Edmonton community," says Kelly. “We built upon the success of last year’s Guru event and this year we have doubled the number of people who participated and the amount of money we raised.” She notes that mental health has been chronically underfunded for decades and was proud to say that all the funds raised through the Guru event will go directly to programs and services for those suffering with mental health and addictions challenges.
